FTP – File Transfer Protocol. (used just for file transfer – not viewing or editing)

    Several Ways:

1)      Command Prompt (obsolete)

2)      Utility Program (WSFTP – semi-obsolete)

3)      Web Browser (Easiest)

4)      Dream Weaver (all details are transparent)

Details on how to do FTP via the browser:

1)      Open internet explorer

2)      On the address bar, type in ftp://server

a.       In our case ftp://web.acd.ccac.edu/ (where web.acd.ccac.edu is the ccac server)

b.      A dialog asking for username (netid) and password comes up.

3)      Once you are logged in, your server appears as a folder and can be used in a similar manner to a folder.

a.       You can cut and paste files to the server.

b.      You can drag and drop files into the server directory.

c.       Caveats:

                                                               i.      This is not exactly a folder.

ii.      You can not edit in the server folder

iii.      Edit on the PC and transfer to the server.

                                                           iv.      On the CCAC Server:

1.      Files to be seen must be placed in the public_html folder.

2.      The home page must be index.htm (lowercase only)

3.      To view your home page type the following into the address bar: http://web.acd.ccac.edu/~netid

4.      Note: do not use ~netid when you are doing FTP.
